Clover Mobile: First Data’s Wireless, Tablet-Based Point of Sale

Clover, a point-of-sale company owned by payment processor First Data, recently announced a new mobile version of their current point-of-sale offering. The android-based tablet is just as gorgeous as their countertop version that has been around since October 2013, but no longer needs to stay in one place.

The mobile tablet, which they are calling Clover Mobile, will allow merchants to take orders, payments and much more while on the move. It works as a standalone register or it can be paired with a stationary Clover Station if desired.In preparation for the upcoming EMV requirements in the US next October, Clover Mobile will not only support standard card swipes, but also chip-and-pin EMV cards, and NFC (near field communication) for Apple Pay, Google Wallet, etc.

If line busting or tableside payments is your thing, get excited because Clover Mobile includes a Bluetooth-connected mobile thermal printer that can be attached to a belt so receipts can be provided quickly from anywhere in the store.Clover Mobile includes access to Clover’s App Market, which is a collection of merchant-focused applications that can be downloaded to your Clover device. These applications include services such as loyalty programs, accounting software, gift cards, and much more.Similar to Apple iPads, the Clover Mobile devices can be purchases with WiFi only or with WiFi and 3G.
